Listen to The Blue Crawdads’ new EP, Take You There, and you might hear
echoes of New Orleans funk, Memphis soul, Macon rock and Tulsa country. But
what you’re really hearing is southeastern Kentucky’s premier blues band rolling
down the backroads in search of all the roots-rockin’ good times to be found. The
Blue Crawdads have brought their original songs and signature covers to festivals,
nightclubs, theaters, and juke joints since 2014. Past recordings have included the
EPs Bluefield and A Crawdad Christmas, the live album Straight from the Mud,
and a New Orleans-style cover of “Just a Closer Walk,” recorded live with
bluegrass mandolin virtuoso Virgil Bowlin. Their songs “Cumberland River
Blues” and “Good Lovin’ Is My Business” have provided the soundtrack for web-
based commercials for Barbourville Tourism and Wildcat Harley-Davidson.
